Foundation Progress

Two weeks later and the forms are up and concrete trucks are on the way for a pour this morning.  In the interim two weeks, the structural design was being finalized, utilities disconnected from existing house, footing excavations and forms, additional grading for ramps for concrete trucks.  We are in a 110 mph wind zone which requires structural hardware from foundation to frame to resist uplift.  All these details were coordinated and communicated to the concrete subcontractor as they will install the bolt anchors into the wet concrete after pouring at specific locations.

The Beginning

The Hojnoski's came to us after having agonized over whether to tear down the existing A-frame 70's style homeor create a renovation that would meet their living space needs while keeping the exterior aesthetically pleasing.  The challenge was to add another A-frame section or add something completely different in style that would blend with the large A-frame section. After a couple of tries it was clear that staying with the main style of the house, splitting the new A-frame with a connector, and flowing with the various grades surrounding the house would be the most sensible design.  The existing A-frame section would be opened up inside and encompass living/family room and the loft above the front half remain. The connector to the new A-frame section would encompass a new stairway, entry, and new kitchen that would open to a dining/family room area in the existing A-frame section. The entry/stair portion would open above to a second floor loft that would connect with the existing loft above.  The new A-frame section would start with a 2-car garage "down under", a master suite, study and laundry area on the first floor and two bedrooms and bath on the second floor.
